Privacy Policy
We value your privacy. This policy details how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.
1 Data We Collect
We gather personal details such as your name, email address, phone number, and household member contact information when you use our services. We also store account preferences, recipes you create or save, meal plans, pantry items, shopping lists, and support messages you send us.
Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited may be collected through cookies and analytics tools so we can keep the service secure and improve how it works.
2 Use of Your Data
Your information helps us provide meal planning, household attendance tracking, customer support, billing for paid plans, and optional weekly notifications. We use it to authenticate your account, sync plans across devices, and respond when you contact us.
3 User Recipes
Recipes you create or save on myDinnerPlan are stored on our servers. Server administrators can view all user-submitted recipes for content moderation and platform management.
If you choose to share a recipe with the community, it will not appear in the public recipe database until a server administrator reviews and approves it. Until then, the recipe remains visible only to you and site administrators.
Once a recipe is approved for the public library, it cannot be switched back to private. Approved public recipes share their ingredients and ratings with all users.
4 Email & Text Notifications
If you enable notifications, myDinnerPlan may send weekly meal reminders by email or SMS. Account holders consent when enabling text notifications in Account Settings by actively checking an unchecked SMS consent box. Household members must confirm opt-in through a unique web opt-in link (with the same disclosures and an unchecked consent checkbox) or by replying YES to an invitation text before receiving reminders.
Promotional emails (promo codes, tips, and product updates) are optional and separate from meal reminders. We only send them if you check the unchecked opt-in box when creating an account, or later in Account Settings. You can turn this off anytime in Settings. Promotional consent is for email only — we do not send marketing texts from this setting.
Text message frequency: Up to 4 messages per week. Message and data rates may apply.
Email reminders include an unsubscribe link. Text reminders support STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help, and YES to opt back in.
We do not sell mobile phone numbers or share them with third parties or affiliates for those parties’ marketing. Numbers are used only to deliver the notifications you opted into and to operate the service (including SMS delivery through our messaging provider).
Consent to receive text messages is not required to use myDinnerPlan; email notifications remain available. Household planners are responsible for having permission to add members and their contact information.
5 Alexa & Voice Assistants
If you enable the myDinnerPlan Alexa skill and link your account, Amazon Alexa may request access to read tonight’s planned meal and recipe cooking steps. Linking uses OAuth Account Linking: you sign in on myDinnerPlan and approve access. Alexa receives a token that lets the skill fetch only meal and recipe information needed to answer your voice requests.
We do not grant Alexa permission to change your meal plan, recipes, household members, or billing. You can disconnect Alexa from Account Settings (which revokes our access tokens) and/or disable the skill in the Alexa app. Voice requests are processed by Amazon; see Amazon’s privacy policy for how Alexa handles audio.
6 Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Mobile phone numbers are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing. Data may be shared with trusted third parties solely for operational needs, such as payment processing, email delivery, SMS delivery, voice assistants you link (such as Alexa), and website analytics. Those providers are expected to use your data only to perform services for us.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights or safety of myDinnerPlan or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets where privacy commitments continue to apply.
7 Cookies & Analytics
On our production website, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use myDinnerPlan — for example, which pages are viewed and how often. Google Analytics may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, and may set cookies or similar technologies on your device.
This analytics data is processed by Google on our behalf so we can improve the service. It is not used to sell your personal information. You can learn more about how Google uses data in Google’s Privacy Policy and manage or opt out of Google Analytics via Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
8 Your Privacy Rights
You have the right to access, update, or request deletion of your data. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to correct inaccurate information, object to certain processing, or receive a copy of data you provided. Reach out to us to exercise these rights. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
9 Data Retention & Security
We keep account and planning data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward if needed for backups, legal obligations, or dispute resolution. We use industry-standard safeguards to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
